Documents
How does power of attorney work for vehicle disposal?
If you cannot attend in person, you may authorise another person to hand over the vehicle. The document must meet several conditions to be valid.
When is it needed?
Typically when the owner:
- cannot attend (health, work, living abroad)
- is a company represented by someone who is not the statutory signatory
- is abroad and a family member or third party hands over the car
What must the power of attorney include?
A valid document should include:
- Principal’s name (owner) and personal identifier as used locally
- Representative’s name and personal identifier
- Scope: explicitly handing the vehicle to the authorised scrapyard, including submission of documents
- Date
- Owner’s handwritten signature
We recommend adding plate number and VIN so the vehicle is unambiguous.
Notarisation?
For handover at our scrapyard notarisation is required. The owner’s handwritten signature alone is not enough — the power of attorney must be notarised.
What the representative brings
- Original notarised power of attorney
- Representative’s ID
- Vehicle documents (registration certificate and document)
Summary
The document must identify both parties, state the purpose, bear the owner’s signature, and be notarised. We cannot accept a power of attorney without notarisation at handover.
